Longacre Expeditions is one of the most respected adventure travel programs in the United States. Each summer co-ed groups of 10 to 16 teenagers and their leaders bicycle, climb, raft, surf, and sail across some of the most beautiful areas in the world. Trips focus on group living, physical accomplishment, cooperation, independence, and fun.
The most important element in the Longacre Experience is its competent, caring staff. Our staff comes from all over the country. They are often teachers who see the summer as an opportunity to be with kids in a non-classroom setting. Others join us each year coming from seasonal positions at ski resorts, environmental centers, and other outdoor programs. Still others are graduate students, or college juniors or seniors, who have taken a few years away from their formal education to work or tour the world.
Our staff is an amazing collection of individuals who enjoy the outdoors and kids. Longacre affords them the opportunity to expand their outdoor experience, earn a little money, and to sleep under the stars. But the special thing about Longacre is the relationships that develop—between staff and the kids, and among the staffers. These relationships have traditionally endured far beyond the summer months. Staffers change during summers at Longacre. They assume significant responsibilities, and they take on physical and interpersonal challenges.
