Mission
Our mission at Longacre Expeditions is to inspire students to grow in leadership and personal responsibility, to feel empowered by their adventures, to discover self-confidence, to lead healthy and active lives, and to become more environmentally conscious.

For 27 seasons we have offered world-class, human-powered adventure trips for young people. In the midst of breathtaking settings in the United States and around the world, our kids make connections; with peers and leaders, with their natural surroundings, and especially with themselves.

We are explorers, travelers, adventure-enthusiasts, students, teachers, and friendship-seekers. After spending part of your summer with us, you walk away with:

A new skill mastered
Practicing the Eskimo roll in preparation for white water kayaking in Maine; improving your Spanish at a market in Ecuador, learning Adobe Photoshop® at the University of Limerick, Ireland.

Personal independence
Living closely with a group of 10-15 other kids; setting up a tent or sleeping under the stars; or immersing yourself in the culture and language of Copán, Honduras.

Physical accomplishment
Perfecting your form while surfing in Costa Rica, sea kayaking Spain’s rocky Costa Brava; biking a 70 mile day along the Nova Scotia coast; or backpacking for four days in Garibaldi Provincial park, BC.

Interpersonal growth
As “Leader of the Day” keeping your friends on task when prepping for an overnight rafting trip; speaking from the heart with a new friend or trip leader during an evening meeting; giving back to the community through service; or embracing a local custom in Panama.

On each expedition there are challenges. There is rain amidst sunny days. You wake up early and go to bed late. Your muscles ache from a long day of rock climbing. But there are huge pay-offs. Intense friendships. The thrill of catching an epic wave, conquering a climb, or swimming with dolphins. The bedrock of self-awareness that comes when you receive honest and caring feedback from your friends and leaders. The confidence gained by meeting a challenge head-on. During a summer at Longacre, you learn and laugh and play hard.

On every Longacre program there are tons of times that are just plain fun! From hanging out with your new friends before meals, to exploring a town during a layover day, to a soak in a natural hotspring, to a final celebratory feast , there’s time during every expedition for kids to just chill.

Whatever program you choose, whether it’s your first or your fourth, you’ll grow on a Longacre trip. You’ll delight in your newly honed leadership skills. You’ll build confidence. You’ll discover your voice and listen to others. You’ll develop a stronger sense of self, and find the courage and integrity to express that self through your words, your actions, and your creativity.
